March is the halfway point of the semester. It’s the time
when you can feel spring in the air and you start to see the light at the end
of the semester. March is the perfect time to take a break, take stock of your
progress toward your degree and your career goals, and begin planning for next
year.
Let’s start with
taking a break.
It is incredibly important to take a break this time of year and just breathe. Enjoy life a bit, have some fun, and try and let any stress you’ve been feeling roll off your back. De-stressing is an important part of keeping yourself healthy and on track for the future. De-stressing takes on many forms because each person has a unique way of unwinding. Find yours and take advantage – go for a run, binge your favorite TV, get a massage, or curl up and read a book. Whatever activity takes your mind off everything else – take some time this month and do it. If you are able to get away for spring break that’s a great idea too.

Progress.
Now- once you’ve decompressed and are feeling a little more balanced it’s time to take stock of the progress you’ve made so far. How are your classes going? How’s your progress toward your program or major requirements? Are you where you want to be? Mid-semester is a good time to chat with your teachers or your school counselor if you feel there are any areas you are concerned with or just want some extra feedback. Understanding where you stand will help you with your final step for the month.

Plan for Next Year.
Now is the time to begin thinking about next year’s classes and activities. Review your graduation requirements with your school counselor and start planning out next year’s schedule. Make sure you get in your requirements, some classes that fit your career path, and some classes you enjoy. Also look into exploring the careers that interest you through a job shadow or internship.

Getting organized for next year now will give you more time
to enjoy the final months of school without the added stress of last minute
scheduling decisions. It’s also going to get a lot nicer out in April and May –
use the fickle March weather to finish up your spring planning so you can spend
more time in the sun come April 1.
