Join us this Sunday at the ICR Future Career & College Fair!

As an ICAN Student Success Advisor, I think it is crucial for students to start thinking about their future careers and majors. Nearly 70% of jobs require more than a high school diploma! I am a true believer that a four year degree is not for everyone. However, I do think training or education beyond high school (post-secondary education) is essential.

The College & Career planning process can be overwhelming. However, I do think you have to start somewhere! How about attending a college and career fair? A college & career fair is a great opportunity for students and parents to meet with a wide variety of colleges, businesses, apprenticeship programs, the military, etc. to discuss future plans. Students can learn a lot by attending a college fair.

There are so many positive benefits to attending a career and college fair. Such as:
  • Students can learn about a college or program they may not have heard of before by attending a College & Career Fair
  • Students can learn how to professionally speak with college and business representatives
  •  Students can gain more confidence by attending a fair by becoming more knowledgeable about certain colleges or programs
  • Students can learn about earning potential, how much the school/university they are looking at costs, statistics on graduation rates, etc.
  • Students can get to know Admission representatives from schools
  • Students can get to know professionals in the trades, military, etc.
  • Students may learn something new about themselves by attending a college & career fair!

ICAN and ICR Future are partnering for the very FIRST College & Career Fair in Eastern Iowa! The fair will be held on Sunday, March 31 from 12:30-3:00 PM at the Kirkwood Hotel & Event Center in Cedar Rapids.

To say we are excited is an understatement. The ICR Future Career and College Fair will be the premier event in Eastern Iowa for students and parents to truly discover the breadth of opportunities available to their students after high school. It’s a one-stop-shop for career discovery and exploration where students can find their passion through a career pathway, talk with professionals in the field about career expectations and then find the education or training that will prepare them for that career. This event will have business representing all six career clusters, and more than 60 colleges, apprenticeship, and military options available so students can find their future. We hope you can join us!
