Summer Activities with the Disruption Caused by COVID-19

With summer 2020 fast approaching, what activities will I be able to do? Is social distancing a new normal for all of us? Summer is supposed to be a time to recoup and regenerate before heading back to school in the fall. I put together a list of some activities that might be helpful to keep you on track during the summer.

  1. Take a “fun” on-line class at the local community college-photography, Photo Shop etc.
  2. Learn how to play a new summer sport, tennis, golf, paddleball, croquet, horseshoes, Bocce Ball, Cornhole (bean bag toss), Frisbee Golf, etc.
  3. Hike in a State, County, or City Parks
  4. Catch a Movie (queue up your favorite movie and form an online viewing party)
  5. Botanical Gardens and Arboretums
  6. Pack a lunch and have a picnic in the park.
  7. Go camping-don’t forget the s’mores around the fire.
  8. Learn to make some homemade ice cream
  9. Kayaking-Paddle boarding-Boating
  10. Canoeing down an Iowa River
  11. Biking
  12. Rollerblading
  13. Read books (there are a ton of free downloads from libraries, audible and Amazon)
  14. Get a head start and learn a foreign language. (free apps are available)
  15. Plant a garden with all your favorite veggies.
  16. Train for a 5k or half marathon.
  17. Trap Shooting – Archery at your local club
  18. Night Sky- Astronomers- Star Gazing – Night Photography
  19. Fishing
  20. Volunteer-help a neighbor with yard work
  21. Learn how to cook – there are tons of online videos that teach you step-by-step through your favorite recipes
  22. Scrapbooking, Sewing, Cricut, design and make your own projects
  23. Woodworking (watch your fingers)
  24. Create a small business and learn to sell online with eBay or Etsy
  25. Walk your dog
  26. Blog, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube
  27. Learn to play an instrument, piano, guitar, Ukulele, Harmonica, Kazoo
There are tons of ways to enjoy the summer and still be safe if social distancing recommendations are still in effect. Just remember, we are all in this together and the safer we are now the sooner we can all come back together again.
