It’s National School Counseling Week and since school
counselors are our primary partner in getting the message out to students and
parents, the team at ICAN holds this group of professionals in high esteem.
For ICAN, there is no better champion for students when it
comes to career and college readiness than the school counselors who invite us
in to talk with students and parents. These are also the ones that spend hours
helping students search for scholarship, understand career assessment results,
organize trips to college fairs or plan out times when colleges can visit with
students.
At ICAN our mission is to empower Iowans to achieve their
education and career goals – and our passion is to arm students with the tools
and resources necessary to make informed decisions about their future. This
mission is made possible through the partnership we have with the school
counselors of Iowa. School counselors are the ones that bring our messages to
life each and every day through career days, college application campaigns,
parent nights, field trips, and classroom discussions about future
opportunities.
So today is day three of National School Counseling Week and
the theme for the day is Reach for the Stars… highlighting how school
counselors help students build the future they’ve envisioned for themselves. If
you’ve had a school counselor make an impact in your life, join in today. Download
the Reach for the Stars selfie sheet and share your experience on social
media with the hashtag #NSCW18.
And if you find yourself struggling take a moment and visit
your school counselor. They can be your greatest advocate and resource for career
planning, college applications, a transcript request, overcoming adversity, or
just a friendly ear on a rough day.
And from the ICAN team – we want to say THANK YOU to all the
school counselors that work tirelessly each day to help students reach for the
stars and make their dreams a reality.
